Need Help? You’re in the Right Place!
This page covers useful tips on organising your site, choosing the right theme, using widgets and managing menus.
Recommended Themes
There are many themes to choose from, but here are some reliable and widely used options:
- Twenty Twenty-Four – The latest official WordPress theme, and the default theme for myblog sites. Great for a modern, flexible design.
- Twenty Twenty-Three – A minimal and accessible theme with full-site editing capabilities.
- Twenty Twenty-One – A simple, elegant theme with great readability.
You can change your theme anytime by going to Appearance > Themes and activating a new one.
Understanding Widgets & Widget Areas
Widgets are small content blocks that you can add to different sections of your site, such as sidebars and footers. They allow you to add extra functionality like search bars, recent posts, and social media links.
Widget Areas
Where you can place widgets depends on your theme. Some themes provide widget areas in the sidebar, footer, or even the homepage. To manage widgets:
- Go to Appearance > Widgets.
- Choose a widget area and add blocks to it like you would a page or a post. That includes images, text, columns etc.
- Click ‘Update’ to save the widget areas and the new content should be live.
Note: Widget areas vary by theme. Some themes offer multiple widget locations, while others may have only one.
Setting Up Your Menu
Menus help users navigate your site, but new pages are not automatically added. You’ll need to set up your menu manually.
Creating & Editing Menus
- Go to Appearance > Menus.
- Click Create a new menu (if you don’t have one yet).
- Use the checkboxes to select pages, posts, or custom links, then click Add to Menu.
- Drag menu items to rearrange their order.
- Assign the menu to a location (e.g., primary, footer, or mobile menu).
- Click Save Menu.
Some themes may have multiple menu locations, while others only support a single main menu.
